Asteroseismology of HADS stars: V974 Oph, a radial pulsator flavoured by nonradial components The analysis of a dense time-series on V974 Oph disclosed the richpulsational content (at least five independent terms) of thishigh-amplitude (0.60 mag in B-light) delta Scts star. A mode with afrequency very close to the main one (probably the fundamental radialmode) has been detected: such a doublet is not a common feature in starsof the same class. Also another term can be considered a radial one, butthe high ratio (0.786) raises some problems that can be solved only byadmitting very low metallicity. It is quite evident that someundetectable terms are again hidden in the noise, as the least-squaresfit leaves a rms residual much higher than the observational noise. Allthat considered, nonradial modes seem to play a key rôle in thelight variability of V974 Oph. Revealing an unsuspected asteroseismicinterest, V974 Oph provides a link between low- and high-amplitude deltaScts stars.Based on observations collected at Europan Southern Observatory, LaSilla, Chile
| The Tokyo PMC catalog 90-93: Catalog of positions of 6649 stars observed in 1990 through 1993 with Tokyo photoelectric meridian circle The sixth annual catalog of the Tokyo Photoelectric Meridian Circle(PMC) is presented for 6649 stars which were observed at least two timesin January 1990 through March 1993. The mean positions of the starsobserved are given in the catalog at the corresponding mean epochs ofobservations of individual stars. The coordinates of the catalog arebased on the FK5 system, and referred to the equinox and equator ofJ2000.0. The mean local deviations of the observed positions from theFK5 catalog positions are constructed for the basic FK5 stars to comparewith those of the Tokyo PMC Catalog 89 and preliminary Hipparcos resultsof H30.
| Spurious effects in presence of a variable extinction coefficient in photoelectric photometry Observational evidence was found that even in good photometric sites theextinction coefficient can display large variations during a night. Ifnot corrected, this variability increases the measurement errors andintroduces low-frequency spurious peaks in the power spectra. In orderto apply the procedures based on the instantaneous determination of theextinction coefficient, an analytical method is proposed to determine areliable value for the extra-atmosphere instrumental magnitude for areference star. The whole process was applied to different couples ofstars and the improvements in the frequency analysis with respect toclassical procedures are emphasized. It allowed us to better extract asmall amplitude signal in presence of a rapid variability of theatmospheric extinction coefficient and to obtain a clear picture of theextinction coefficient at La Silla during September and October 1991.
| UBV(RI)c observations for 13 bright Cepheids Photometry in the UBV(RI)c system has been obtained for 13 of thebrightest Cepheids in the southern sky available to the new SydneyUniversity Stellar Interferometer. The stars observed were Eta Aq1, 1Car, U Car, AX Cir, Beta Dor, Zeta Gem, T Mon, Kappa Pav, U Sgr, W Sgr,X Sgr, Y Sgr, and AH Vel. The main purpose of the photometry is toprovide current epoch data for the phases of the variables, although forseveral of the stars these data are also the first in the (RI)c system.
| A photometric catalogue of stars in the direction of the bright cloud B in Sagittarius The present catalog includes photometric data on stars in a 5.5 deg x5.5 deg area in the direction of the bright cloud B in Sagittarius, centered at l equals 357.7 deg, b equals plus 5.6 deg. V magnitudes andB-V and U-B colors are reported for nearly all HD and HDE stars in thefield and also for a number of interesting stars (402 stars), 21 propermotion stars, and 45 stars in a 15 arcmin radius circular regioncentered on the galactic cluster Trumpler 26 (Tr 26). Furthermore, photographic B, V, R, and IR magnitudes are listed for 274 stars in thefield of Tr 26. These data will be used for further studies ofinterstellar absorption in the Galaxy's central direction in relation tospecific objects (red variable stars, star clusters, diffuse objects).
